Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Kyiv is prepared to enter into a mutual energy ceasefire with Russia following a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump in New York.
The two leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss wartime de-escalation strategies, winter air defenses, and industrial cooperation. Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian forces would halt long-range strikes against Russian oil refineries and energy infrastructure only if Moscow reciprocated by ending its attacks on Ukrainian power, heating, and water networks. The Ukrainian leader confirmed that Washington made no unilateral demands on Kyiv to halt its strikes, agreeing instead to relay the mutual ceasefire proposal directly to the Kremlin.
During their discussions, the leaders also addressed defense production initiatives, including efforts to secure American manufacturing licenses to produce Patriot missile interceptors inside Ukraine. While offering the reciprocal truce to protect critical utilities ahead of the cold season, Zelenskyy maintained skepticism regarding whether Moscow would genuinely respect any formal cessation of strikes.
