Houthi forces attacked Yemen’s Aden International Airport with missiles and drones on Wednesday, while Saudi Arabia said it intercepted a separate ballistic missile north of Riyadh, with no casualties immediately reported.
Yemen’s Transport Ministry said two ballistic missiles and several explosive-laden drones targeted the airport, which serves government-held areas of the country. One missile reportedly landed near the runway shortly before a Cairo flight was scheduled to arrive, prompting authorities to cancel the landing and divert the aircraft to Jeddah. Two aircraft on the ground were also moved away from the area as a precaution.
Saudi Arabia’s coalition spokesman said air defenses intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile north of the capital, Riyadh, but did not report damage or injuries. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree separately claimed attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and military sites near Khamis Mushait, though Saudi authorities did not immediately confirm those claims. The strikes came as Saudi-backed Yemeni forces continued an offensive against the Houthis near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea port of Mocha.
Both sides have issued competing battlefield claims, and several details could not be independently verified.
