Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv overnight from Oct. 13 to 14, killing three people, injuring at least 21, damaging homes and other buildings, hitting energy facilities and causing power outages, Ukrainian authorities said Wednesday.
One missile hit a nine-storey apartment building in the Desnianskyi district late Tuesday, starting a fire that firefighters later extinguished across about 400 square metres. Emergency crews rescued 16 residents from the building, where two bodies were found; a separate strike in the Holosiivskyi district killed another person and injured one, officials said. At least one child was among the injured, and reports said some casualties were hospitalized as rescue teams continued work at multiple sites.
Other damage was reported in several districts, including fires at unused buildings and a stadium, while electric public transport was temporarily disrupted in parts of the city. Officials said energy facilities, including a power plant, were targeted; Kyiv experienced outages, but authorities had not yet provided a full account of damage to the energy system. Air-raid warnings and further explosions were reported through the morning, as Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine and strikes on energy infrastructure ahead of winter.
