A drone strike on a transport area near a market killed at least 80 people in Al-Dibab, West Kordofan, on Sunday evening, October 18, according to a witness and a medical source who spoke to Agence France-Presse.
Many of those killed were reportedly civilians waiting for trucks to take them home after market day. Witness Ahmed Abakar Wadi said the drone struck twice, about 10 minutes apart. He stated that he helped bury 50 victims, including his own brother.
He said 47 injured people were taken to nearby Al-Mujlad for medical care. A medic said 30 of them later died from their wounds, bringing the reported death toll to 80. The medic, who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons, said another drone strike in Al-Mujlad injured four people.
The attack took place in a state controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The RSF's self-declared administration blamed Sudan's army for the attack, but who is responsible has not been independently confirmed. The strike is among the deadliest single attacks reported since the war between the army and the RSF began in April 2023.
On Monday, a separate drone attack on a home in Khartoum killed four people, including three children, according to a medical source.
