Ukrainian officials said Russian drone attacks on Tuesday, October 20, killed three people near the Kyiv–Odesa highway and damaged an operating room at Kyiv’s Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology, injuring one patient.
The deadly strike hit near Chabany, just outside Kyiv, during the morning commute. It set several cars on fire. Prosecutors said four other people were wounded.
Emergency crews responded. Traffic was restricted on the affected stretch. Separately, Russian drones struck medical facilities in Kyiv later on Tuesday.
Attacks continued across the city. At the Strazhesko Institute, the strike damaged the sixth-floor operating room, according to Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi. One patient was injured and received medical care.
Officials reported no deaths at the institute. The center treats people with heart conditions from across Ukraine. It performs surgeries.
Debris from drones also damaged another medical facility in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district. City authorities reported injuries in the wider attack. The institute had been struck before.
According to Ukraine’s Health Ministry, an attack in September 2025 damaged several floors and killed two people.
