Bangladesh recorded 2,249 dengue hospital admissions and seven deaths in the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, the highest daily admission count of 2026, while October admissions passed 44,000.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 123,948 admissions and 384 deaths nationwide so far this year. Its dashboard showed 44,328 admissions in October, up from 43,774 in September. Two of Sunday's deaths were in Dhaka North and two in Mymensingh, while Dhaka South, Khulna and Rajshahi each had one.
The previous daily admission high was 2,158, recorded on September 27. The DGHS said 117,400 patients had recovered and been discharged this year. It said 6,164 dengue patients were still in hospitals on October 25.
The rise came despite a three-month nationwide dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign launched on September 12. Public health expert Mushtuq Husain told The Daily Star that prevention efforts were mostly symbolic. He called for year-round surveys of places where mosquitoes breed and stronger local access to testing and care.
