Jordanian security forces arrested three suspects after a gunfight early Monday in Karak, days after a shooting at a Greek Orthodox church during a funeral killed nine people and wounded 40, state media reported.
The suspects were found hiding in an abandoned house, according to the Public Security Directorate. Authorities said the suspects refused to surrender. They said the suspects opened fire as security forces approached.
All three were wounded and detained. No security personnel were hurt. Officers seized guns and ammunition, state media reported.
The church attack took place Friday in the village of Hamoud, about 120 kilometers southwest of Amman. Gunmen opened fire during a funeral. Witnesses said the shooting lasted several minutes.
Officials have not said whether the suspects belonged to any group. No group has claimed responsibility. Jordanian authorities have described the attack as extremist violence.
But they said it was too early to know whether the suspects had ties to known groups.
