Yemen’s Houthi movement said it hit Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura refinery with a ballistic missile on Tuesday, October 27, as Saudi Arabia reported missile interceptions and a nearby fire was contained, while damage remained unclear.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the strike hit the refinery and caused a fire. Saudi authorities did not confirm that the refinery itself had been hit. Saudi Arabia said its air defences stopped and destroyed three ballistic missiles headed toward the kingdom’s Eastern Province.
Separately, two missiles intercepted over Riyadh reportedly scattered debris. Saudi civil defence said the debris damaged a building, a construction site and a vehicle. A fire near Ras Tanura’s oil export terminal was later reported contained.
The extent of the damage had not been established. It was also unclear whether oil-loading operations were affected. The coastal complex includes Saudi Arabia’s largest refinery, which can process about 550,000 barrels of oil a day, as well as major oil-export facilities.
It remains unclear whether a missile reached the refinery. It is also unclear what caused the nearby fire. The incident adds pressure to an already tense regional situation.
Because damage has not been confirmed, the effect on the facility’s operations remains uncertain.
