OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, a model for visual reasoning and computer tasks across apps that costs half as much per token at standard API rates as GPT-5.6 Terra.
The company presents Terra as a tool for everyday professional work, including drafting proposals, reading technical drawings, filling out forms and editing videos. It is rolling out in ChatGPT Work and Codex for eligible plans. Developers can use it through the API.
OpenAI lists standard API prices of $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. The company says these rates are 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra’s. In tests reported by OpenAI on Agents’ Last Exam, a test of professional software tasks, Terra scored 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra at a medium reasoning level.
It performed about as well as GPT-6 Astra. OpenAI also says Terra completed tasks more than three times faster than Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. These results come from the company’s own benchmarks.
The model accepts text and image input. Its computer-use features are meant to help it understand what is on screens and take actions in software.
