Anthropic plans to offer Japanese investors up to 552.9 billion yen, about $3.5 billion, in shares in its planned U.S. IPO, with the money intended for working capital, operating costs and capital spending.
The amount planned for Japan is a proposed allocation, not a disclosure of the overall size of the IPO. The filing also does not set a valuation. Reuters reported that some investors have discussed a figure of about $1.5 trillion.
That figure is not a confirmed IPO price. Mizuho Securities will manage the Japanese portion. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley affiliates are among the firms expected to handle investor orders.
Investors in Australia, Canada and parts of Europe are also expected to have access to the offering. The planned Japan allocation is larger than the $2.2 billion in shares Japanese investors secured in SpaceX’s $75 billion IPO in June, according to Reuters. Anthropic, which makes Claude, has not disclosed final terms for the international share sales.
The amount ultimately offered in Japan may differ from the stated maximum.
