India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 22.9% year over year to ₹2.31 lakh crore in October, the second-highest monthly total on record, as revenue from imports led the increase.
Provisional figures released on November 1 put collections at ₹2,31,290 crore, up from ₹1,88,125 crore in October 2025. The total was below April’s record of ₹2.43 lakh crore. GST collected on imports climbed 42.2% to ₹72,246 crore.
Domestic revenue grew 15.8% to ₹1,59,044 crore. Refunds rose 6.5% to ₹27,934 crore. After refunds, net collections were ₹2,03,356 crore.
That was up 25.6% from a year earlier. The year-on-year increase also reflects a relatively low comparison figure because GST rates were overhauled in the month before October 2025. Analysts cited by Mint said the favorable comparison helped lift the latest growth rate, along with higher revenue from imports.
Gross collections from April through October reached ₹14.78 lakh crore, 13.2% above the same period a year earlier.
