A missile hit Al-Suqya Health Center in Yemen’s Lahj governorate on Monday, killing five people and injuring 15 others, including medical staff, the government-run health ministry said.
The ministry said three of those killed worked at the center. It said seven of the injured were members of its medical team. Yemen’s armed forces said the facility, in Al-Mudaribah district, was hit by a ballistic missile launched from areas under Houthi control.
The claim had not been independently confirmed. The ministry said the reported number of dead and injured was an initial count. It called for an investigation, for people to be held accountable, and for better protection of health facilities and staff.
Early reports gave different numbers of dead and injured. Some local accounts reported about 10 deaths. Other preliminary reports cited fewer deaths and injuries.
The Houthis had not immediately commented on the accusation, according to reports published after the strike. The attack occurred amid renewed fighting between Houthi forces and groups aligned with the government in Yemen. Medical facilities and civilians in the country remain at risk from the conflict.
