Russian missiles and drones hit energy sites around Kyiv and damaged a major bridge on Saturday, Nov. 7, disrupting electricity, heating and water as Ukraine prepared for U.S.-brokered talks with Russia, while officials reported deaths and injuries from attacks across the country.
The strikes damaged sites in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions, including power connections carrying electricity from two nuclear plants to Kyiv and central Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said substations in five other regions were also hit. Missiles also damaged Kyiv’s Northern Bridge over the Dnipro River.
The bridge was temporarily closed while crews checked damage to the road surface and overhead lines. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the capital faced serious energy-supply difficulties affecting heating and water. He later reported that water pressure had stabilized.
Casualty reports were still developing. Reuters reported at least two deaths and about a dozen people wounded nationwide. The Associated Press reported at least nine people wounded.
Separate reporting said a man died in hospital from injuries he suffered in an earlier Russian strike in the Kyiv region. Zelenskyy said Russia launched 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones. He accused Moscow of targeting critical infrastructure before negotiations.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had struck targets in the military industry, energy and transport sectors. The planned three-way talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States are scheduled for Nov. 10–11 in Abu Dhabi. Territorial and security issues remain unresolved.
