Russian missile and drone attacks killed one person and injured at least 22 in Kyiv overnight into Oct. 22, while Ukraine sent hundreds of drones toward Moscow as attacks continued during a renewed U.S. push for peace talks.
Kyiv officials later raised the injury toll to 24, including four children. They said the strikes damaged homes, businesses, an ambulance station and six emergency vehicles. The overnight attack came in several waves.
Ballistic missiles and drones hit districts across the Ukrainian capital. Damage to metro facilities on the Southern Bridge over the Dnipro River disrupted traffic, authorities said. Russian officials said 630 Ukrainian drones were headed toward the Moscow region.
Most were intercepted. Two people were reported wounded. Separately, a Russian strike killed a woman and injured four others in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.
The attacks followed a meeting between U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the meeting, the Kremlin said it was prepared to resume U.S.-mediated talks with Ukraine next month. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also backed renewed negotiations.
But the latest barrage showed that fighting continued as diplomatic efforts increased.
