Bedrock Robotics has raised $600 million at a $4.1 billion valuation to expand the use of its self-driving construction equipment, including excavators already doing paid work at U.S. job sites.
CapitalG and Emergence Capital co-led the Series C round. New investors included Bessemer Venture Partners, Temasek and the U.S. Innovative Technology Fund. Returning backers included NVIDIA and 8VC.
The financing brings the San Francisco company’s total funding to nearly $1 billion. Bedrock’s system adds self-driving technology to existing heavy machinery. This means contractors do not have to buy entirely new equipment.
Its excavators are operating at a Nevada water-treatment facility, a Texas earthwork site and a large civil construction project with Zachry Construction. The company plans to put its machines on more sites. It also plans to expand its field teams and operational support to serve contractors.
Its newest named partner is Arizona-based Haydon. Haydon is using the technology for earthwork at a remote Texas site. It plans to explore further uses for the technology.
The funding comes after Bedrock moved from testing to paid work in August. The startup seeks to make autonomous equipment a dependable part of construction projects.
