Anthropic has publicly filed for an initial public offering, reporting a surge in revenue and a striking first-half net loss that highlights the cost of building and running advanced AI systems.
Anthropic, which makes Claude, reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the six months ended June 30, 2026. That was about 14 times the $1.16 billion it reported in the same period a year earlier. Anthropic also reported a net loss of $80.7 billion.
The loss was largely driven by accounting charges that did not involve cash and were tied to changes in the value of financing arrangements. It was not simply the result of day-to-day operating spending. The company’s operating loss narrowed to $693 million from $2.1 billion in the first half of 2025.
Its computing and infrastructure costs climbed to nearly $9 billion. These costs show the challenge facing AI companies: demand and sales can rise quickly. But serving customers and developing more capable models require large amounts of computing power.
The filing also lists extensive future commitments for cloud computing. These commitments show potential investors the scale of Anthropic’s infrastructure needs. Anthropic has proposed listing on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT.
The filing is an early step in the IPO process. Investors will weigh the company’s rapid commercial growth against its losses, spending needs and ability to turn demand into lasting profits.
